Wikileaks

A highlight from my Typographic Archive Of Loss, the Wikileaks files are a visual responce to the large scale data loss of 16,000 spy documents in December 2018. The project shows how type can carry information as a form of paradoxical archive – with the intention of giving meaning to the linguistically slippery nuances of feeling.

The requirement of a Contract Officer signing paperwork shows the human aspect of an autonomous system. A digitally designed file (using only default typefaces) is something that is very banal and inhuman, yet presents a range of unique and interesting handwritten markings. I took these handwriting styles and redesigned the sensitive documents, asking the question: if  data was handled with a focus on the non-digital, would the secret documents have been lost by the US Embassies?
